Squirrel Making Maple Seeds a Meal

This Eastern Gray Squirrel (UPDATE- the orange coloring probably makes this an Eastern Fox Squirrel) was in my neighbor’s tree eating maple seeds.  Squirrel activity in our yard is constant- they are always there, probably because the woods behind us are prime habitat.  There are maples, walnuts and hazelnuts all over the place.  The squirrels are probably saving some of this food and storing it somewhere safe to have something to eat during the winter.

They have tried to get to our bird feeder, but I think we found a squirrel-proof location.  Besides, with a seemingly never ending food supply in the trees I’m sure they’ll be fine.
