These Canada Geese are feeding in Suttle Lake below Mt. Washington (top just hidden behind hill in foreground). We visited here on our way back home from Central Oregon. This is not a backyard, but everyone has seen these birds in their neighborhood, golf course, park, and skies.
These geese had a young one tagging along. The little one still has its “baby feathers”. See how it is sticking its beak under water? Goose hatchlings are able to feed themselves from the moment they hatch- unlike most other birds (like the robins in one of my previous posts).
Canada Geese are very common, so interactions like this one are not unusual!
