Hooded Mergansers Being Watched

Below the immature Bald Eagle in my last post (look up in the tree) were many Canada Geese and two pairs of Hooded Mergansers. Here’s one of the pairs.  Recall on Christmas day I posted about a group of these birds in the middle of their courting dances.  Well, I guess a couple of the males won.  The male here is the one with the black head. Hooded Merganser Ballet

During my regular walk along the Willamette River this morning I saw these beautiful, strange birds- Hooded Mergansers!  The female is somewhat similar to the Common Merganser I saw here a couple of months ago.
