Blue Fall Skies

We don’t get too many clear, sunny days this time of year.  I took advantage of one last week by hiking down to the river to see what the fallen leaves have revealed.  In this photo, the white “cloud” behind the trees is actually the top of Mt. American Canada Geese

These Canada Geese are flying over the house in standard V-formation.  According to The Sibley Guide to Bird Life and Behavior, birds fly in V-formation to gain extra lift from their neighboring birds.  This makes staying aloft easier and probably helps a lot over long migrations.
