The other day I posted about ospreys and vultures that I saw flying over my yard this past weekend. Now these photos are of the smaller birds that visit us every day.
Above is a Northern Flicker. See the red mark on its face? That means it is a male.
A Spotted Towhee was finding black sunflower seeds below my bird feeder…
…as a Red-breasted Nuthatch was going right to the source. After grabbing a seed, the nuthatch would fly to a nearby tree and break the seed against the trunk with its beak .
Song Sparrows sit in the bird feeder and eat, although they are also willing to forage on the ground below.
Even the Steller’s Jays visit the feeder, though it shakes quite a bit when they fly off of it.

I love the sparrow! I saw a beautiful little blue bird this weekend while we were driving down the highway. Wish I could have gotten a shot, but even if we stopped, she kept moving!
Those Stellars are really something!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
You have some beautiful ‘common’ birds.
Not really so common are they?! It’s amazing to me how different our birds look in the different regions of North America. Our nuthatch is white breasted and our Blue jay is a totally rethink from your Stellars. I guess the Rocky Mts. are more of a barrier than one would think. It sure is nice to see your blue skies and green leaves!
Thanks for showing your colourful ‘common’ species.
A very nice variety of small birds at your feeders. Great photos – I especially like the Flicker.
A great set of images. Beautiful!
Today I learned… that male Northern Flickers have red marks on their faces. Thanks!
They are all beauties! Nice to see that many a species at once!
backyard bird watching is the best…. relaxing and you get time to actually watch what is going on…. super post
Beautyful pictures of those lovely birds
Great pictures. I love the Stellars Jay and their funny ways.
Nice set of bird photos!
A great bunch of backyard birds here. The song sparrow is one of my favorite little birds. I saw more of them during the winter when they came to the feeder. In the summer, it’s really hard to get a picture as they’re harder to see foraging through the grass and brush.
The variety reminds me of my feeder, although I don’t think I’ve seen a Flicker. Wonderful shots!
Lovely images of your beautiful bird.
Great variety of birds! Love the Steller’s Jay.
This one makes me homesick! Very lovely shots of your feeder birds in that Paradise where you live.
YOU got a great line up in your post today…SUper birds to enjoy and some super photos too!
Wonderful collection of backyard birds!
cool shots as usual, I saw a northern flicker atop a telephone pole the other day, actually see it there often this time of year. I hear it first, though! also have steller’s jays, but the feral cats have unfortunately taken a toll on the neighborhood birds. A great dilemna for me. do I try and trap and send all the cats to Kitty Auschweitz? Can’t bear that thought either.
They are beautiful! Amazing what you can get in your yard! (I miss ours in Hungary!)
I wouldn’t call your featured birds all that common….since I live in the SE. Love the Spotted Towhee and the striking Stella Jay.
It is nice to meet another backyard birder. Amazing what we can attract if we try.
Nice collection of “everyday” birds. I wouldn’t mind having some of those, such as the Steller’s Jay!
