Flicker Calls

This morning this Northern Flicker was calling out from the top of my walnut tree.

Flickers are beautiful birds, but they are very, very noisy.  In the video below, this bird sings and another flicker then replies.  A few seconds later you can hear the other bird start singing again.  As soon as it finishes, this bird replies.

A few minutes later a flicker was on top of my neighbor’s metal chimney hammering away.  LOUDLY.

The bottom of the walnut tree looks like this today.  A night of rain leaves interesting water patterns on the bark.  Notice that the moss seems to grow where the water is?
